About the Program Sites

Springdale Park Elementary School – Atlanta Public Schools 

Jenna Shea Mobley has worked to create hands-on lessons and wellness programming for kindergarten through fifth grade students at Springdale Park Elementary School since 2009. She works closely with Schoolyard Sprouts to provide opportunities for students to participate in every step of the gardening process from the planting to the harvesting to the cooking and tasting. She is also the teacher sponsor of the Wellness Committee that aims to promote fitness, nutrition, and green initiatives throughout the school.

School Site

SPARK has been certified a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold school. The building was designed by Perkins+Will and has won the Atlanta Urban Design Commission Award of Excellence, the AIA Georgia Design Award, and the USGBC Award for Excellence in Sustainability in 2010.

Springdale Park was highlighted by the United States Green Building Council through their “High Performance, Healthy Schools” program. Turner Broadcasting recently created a video featuring the building and the sustainability programming at Springdale Park.

Ms. Mobley and Principal Brown were invited to Washington, DC to accept the 2012 National Green Ribbon School award from the U.S. Department of Education.

Springdale Park is also a registered Clean Air Campaign School, participating in programs such as the No Idling Program, the Ride the Bus for Clean Air Program, the Young Lungs at Work Art Competition, and International Walk to School Day.

Based on Springdale Park’s nutrition programming, physical activity, and employee wellness, the school was awarded the Alliance for a Healthier Generation Bronze medal. We are hoping to meet the criteria for Silver this year!
